Goal Machine, by Opportunistic Games. Last updated 30 September 2026.
The short version
Goal Machine doesn't track you, show ads or use analytics. It keeps your games on your own device. The only things that leave it are the name, scores and optional profile picture you choose to share, backups you make, the moves in online games, and (in the Android app, if you allow notifications) an address for sending them to your phone.
What stays on your device
Your scores, album, streaks, daily results, settings, favourite club and any game in progress are saved in your browser or app storage on your phone. They never leave it unless you use a feature below. Clearing the app's data or your browser's site data deletes them.
What we store on our server
- Leaderboard name and scores. When a game finishes, the score, game mode and date are posted under your leaderboard name, and anyone can see them on the leaderboards. Names can't contain offensive words, and anyone with a leaderboard name can report one. A name reported by several players is hidden from the leaderboards until its owner changes it in Settings (your scores, friends and backup move with you).
- Your account key. When you claim a name, your phone makes a random secret key. We store only a scrambled version of it (a hash), which proves scores come from you. We don't ask for your email, phone number or password.
- Profile picture (optional). If you add one, a small copy (160×160) is stored with your name. Your friends and the people you play online see it; it isn't shown on the public leaderboards. Anyone can report a picture as offensive, and pictures reported by several players are removed. Remove yours any time in Settings.
- Backups. If you have an account, your album, stats, streaks and scores from this device are backed up under your name so you can restore them on another phone. Only you (with your account key) can read them.
- Online games. A game room holds the two players' names and their picks or running totals. Rooms are deleted two days after they were last used.
- Notifications (Android app). If you have a leaderboard name and allow notifications, your phone gets a notification address (a token) from Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging. We store it with your name, the kinds of notification you've switched on and your time zone, so we can tell your phone when it's your move, a friend challenges you or a game finishes. It's used for nothing else. Switching the kinds off in Settings stops them; deleting your account removes the token.
- Feedback (optional). If you send a bug report or idea from Settings, we store your message with your leaderboard name (if you have one), the game version, the page you were on, your screen size and your phone or browser type. We keep it until we've dealt with it; ask us and we'll delete it.
This data is held by our database provider, Supabase, in the UK (London). Notifications are delivered by Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging. We don't sell or share it, and we don't use it for advertising.
Other services the game uses
Player photos are loaded from the Premier League, Transfermarkt or Wikimedia Commons, and fonts from Google Fonts. Like any website, those servers see the usual technical details of a request (such as your IP address). We send them nothing about you.
Children
Goal Machine is a general-audience football quiz and isn't directed at children under 13. The only personal information it can hold is the leaderboard name you choose, so please don't use your full real name.
Your choices
- You can play without a leaderboard name. Just tap “Not now” when asked, and nothing is posted.
- Delete your account yourself in ⚙️ Settings → Account → Delete my account: your name, scores, friends, online games and backup are removed from the server straight away.
- Or, to have your leaderboard name and scores removed for you, open an issue at github.com/OpportunisticGames, or email opportunisticyp@gmail.com with your leaderboard name. We'll delete them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
Goal Machine is a fan-made game and isn't affiliated with the Premier League, its clubs or FourFourTwo. Questions? Email opportunisticyp@gmail.com.
